King Kong movie franchise which featured a colossal gorilla as a giant monster released today on 14th December in 1993. ‘Kong’ the movie monster has become one of the world's most famous movie icons and has inspired countless sequels, remakes, spin-offs, parodies, cartoons, books, comics, video games, theme park rides, and even a stage play.A King Kong commemorative coin was issued by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to commemorate the New Zealand film industry. This “Brilliant Uncirculated coin” is a One Dollar coin having Queen’s portrait on the obverse and on the reverse, the scary face of the giant monster.
These coins are just commemorative issues and not a legal tender. A total of 1,00,000 of such king Kong commemorative coins are said to be minted and they come in handsome red folders.
These monsters are sold for 29.99 New Zealand dollars each.
